ZTE's Fast Charge Can Be a Bit of a Lifesaver
New phones are being released at a really fast pace, with all of them claiming to have a faster processing speed than the last, and most of them deliver exceptional results to prove that claim true. High-speed processors on mobile phones have allowed us to enjoy the fastest internet and the luxury of streaming videos straight off the web with almost zero lag and buffering. This is all great, but it tends to result in the phone’s battery life being drained much quicker than preferred. And with so much time spent interacting with our phones, it’s essential to have the battery fully charged as quickly as possible.
What Keeps Draining the Battery?
In addition to being connected to the internet all day, a few other things chip away at the life of your battery throughout the day. A bright screen may be beneficial when using the device outside in ambient light, but it’s not a great idea if you intend to use those phones for a long time. And while you’re outside, it’s important to remember that the battery drains quickly when the device overheats, even if it’s not in use.
A great number of mobile devices come with the option of enhancing the battery life by activating the battery saving mode, which could translate into a slightly dimmed screen, and the 5G being turned off since those are the two most notable consumers of battery power. The disadvantage of this is you don't get to use the phone at its peak capability, and over time, the battery begins to swell.
The solution to a phone that drains energy quickly, is a charger that refuels the battery even faster. It doesn't solve the problem of the device’s battery consumption, but it does minimize the anxiety of being disconnected from communication for too long. A few years ago when 15W was considered fast charging, there wasn’t much debate about it. Either because phones didn’t have too many things going on that could drain the battery quickly, or because no one had invented a faster charger yet. Since fast charging has become a priority feature, phones have progressed from 20W to 45W and 65W fast charging. According to Marques Brownlee of MKBHD, the device charges at peak wattage only while the battery is completely empty, and then the charge slows down until it reaches 100%. That means it really does make a difference to put your phone in the charger for 5 minutes before heading out the door if it’s almost drained.
ZTE Advancements and Solutions
ZTE constantly seeks new ways to solve problems for the consumer. Older models like the Axon 10 Pro come standard with a Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 which has 28W of fast charge power, and the Axon 20 which has a fast charge capability of 30W. While these are labeled as fast charging, the rollout of the 5G network has created an even greater energy demand for mobile devices. In the unfortunate event that a fast charger isn’t available, it could take up to two hours to charge the device, according to a test performed by TechNick on the Axon 10. Improvements by ZTE have made way for an even faster charge to have you juiced up quicker.
The latest ZTE devices are equipped with a fast charging ability of no less than 65W, giving models like the Axon 40 Ultra the ability to move from 0-50% in about 21 minutes. To support the high-speed performance of the Snapdragon 8 gen 1, the device itself is fitted with a 5000 mAh Li-Po battery. A common shortfall with devices that use the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 chipset is overheating, but the Axon 40 ultra is fitted with an advanced passive cooling system that minimizes the internal overheating problem. A proprietary test performed by the GSM Arena gave the Axon 40 Ultra an endurance score of 104 hours on standby, about 24 hours of 3G talk time, and 12 hours of web surfing power.
The Axon 40 Pro has a slightly faster charge at 66W to support the Snapdragon 870 and a screen refresh rate of 144Hz. It’s also fitted with a 5000 mAh battery and can reach the 80% mark after about 30 minutes of charging. Due to the size of the battery in both of these devices, standard charging would take far too long to get the device fully charged. So it’s actually essential to pair the device with a fast charger if you plan on using it for the whole day.
